Symphony is audited and certified by an independent Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm that specializes in Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE16) audits of payroll service organizations. Our SSAE 16 is a Type II certification; the most rigorous standard. Certification is an expensive and time consuming endeavor. Symphony invests in SSAE16 certifications as a rolling “final exam” to keep us focused on our internal processes and controls, and to provide our clients with the piece of mind that Symphony is audited to SSAE16 standards for consistency and reliability of operational processes. In addition, by selecting an auditor that specializes in SSAE16 audits of payroll service organizations, Symphony gains the benefit of the auditor’s exposure to cutting-edge payroll processes and controls, thus guiding Symphony in our quest to be at the forefront of best practices for the payroll industry.
What is SSAE16?
Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (auditing) No. 16 (SSAE16), Service Organizations, is a widely recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). In today’s regulatory environment, service organizations must demonstrate that they have adequate controls and safeguards when they host or process data belonging to their customers. SSAE16 provides guidance to enable an independent auditor (“service auditor”) to issue an opinion, after in-depth auditing and testing (in the case of a Type II certification), on a service organization’s description of controls through issuing a Service Auditor’s Report.
